Not sure if I’m exaggerating or not.

Got a cool shoot with imo some amazing pics. These ones are at a really high resolution and I can visibly see the drop in quality when editing them.

I’m also kinda scared that if I’ll upload them to tinder, that app will destroy it even more.

Got a bunch more pics, dropped the first one I thought was decent and edited.

First one is edited one: I used charm 1 and cheekbones 1

I can see the decrease in quality when I focus on a face. IMHO, for this particular pic, you do not need Faceapp.

Faceapp or not, I would not use this photo.

The vibe is off. For one, you're wearing sunglasses, on a cloudy day, no less.

And your face just doesn't look good.

And you're doing something odd with your right hand.

It's not superior to your other current photos.

Won’t be using it. Was an example to show the quality loss, nothing more

Hey, I'm glad to read this thread as previously I felt being the only guy getting annoyed at the downgrade of quality using FaceApp haha.

So, realistically, I don't think this downgrade has any impact on the results on dating apps. However, it still bothers me a lot because I didn't invest in a nice $1K+ camera with a 32 Mpix sensor to get my pics butchered after the editing.

That's the main reason why I'm not using FaceApp anymore for most of my edits. Don't get me wrong, FaceApp does the job well most of the time and it's so easy and convenient to use for quick edits.

For most of my pics, I prefer to use PortraitPro from Anthropics as it's a proper editing software running on PC (not a cloud app). So with PortraitPro, you get more control on your edits than with FaceApp and no quality loss (export in JPEG with the quality slider set to 98%), but editing with this software takes more time than with FaceApp. That's the trade-off. I still highly recommend it if quality is a concern.

It's pretty obvious on this one.

I have a huge tendency to laugh with my tongue pushing my chin down which makes my chin point out really hard and makes it look weird.
The vibe is off because you can see little raindrops on the metal balcony. The sky is cloudy but tbh that's easily photoshoppable.
There is only one glass on the table which is off because the goal is to give the impression that I'm chilling with friends on this cool rooftop.
I don't even mind the hand gesture because people move their bodies when laughing which surprisingly makes the pic more natural than if I were to have a neutral hand gesture.

Didn't know this existed. Does is take a long time to become good at it or would you suggest just going on Fiverrr or asking someone here to edit the final batch of pics?

@kratjeuh No, it's not a complicated software to use. It's just "play with the sliders and see what happens" kind of program, which takes more time to do the job than the retarded "just apply 2-3 filters" from FaceApp. There is a well-made tutorial to help getting started tho.
You can try it for free if you're interested: https://www.anthropics.com/portraitpro/

Edit: if you want to buy it, my promo code should still work as I shared it already to a friend and he was able get the same discount as me haha: TWIPJ22

My 2c is that optimising technical stuff like resolution is pure wanking.

The iPhone 14 pro has a screen resolution of
2556 x 1179
A 32MP photo is around
6521 x 4896

So you have 3x the amount of pixels that you need for the best iPhone. And anything you upload to online fb, ig, tinder will compress and crush it.

Resolution stopped being relevant to digital cameras in 2015. It is a sales/marketing tool 12MP is good enough

@Adrizzle Yeah, I agree that for the dating apps use case, this technical annoyance is pure wanking as it doesn't matter at all.

That said, I still want my pictures to be of the best quality possible, even from a technical perspective, so the shitty output quality of FaceApp bothers me a lot.

For sure, pixel count isn't that much relevant after a certain threshold, but 12 Mpix isn't good enough in my books as a simple crop can reveal the lack of detail/sharpness due to this modest pixel count. Anyway, good modern cameras have a sensor with a minimum of 20 Mpix nowadays, which is enough most of the time.

This is true but these set of pics actually becomes blurry and then it is relevant.
